Winelands Built Environment Professionals
Meeting Invitation Thursday, 31 May 2018
Special Guest Speaker
Michelle Ludwig, Senior Green Building Consultant and Director at GreenED
Topic: Leveling Up - Taking Green Design Further
The time has come to elevate human health and comfort to the forefront of building practices and reinvent buildings that are not only better for the planet, but also for people. The first framework, the WELL Building Standard, is a building certification tool that is human-centric and benchmarks best practices for topics of health and well-being of occupants in the built environment and corporate operations.
The other framework, the Living Building Challenge (LBC), is the world’s most rigorous proven performance standard for buildings. The framework evolved from restorative design principles that aim to create spaces that give more than they take. To be certified under the Challenge, projects must meet a series of ambitious performance requirements, including Net Zero Energy, Waste and Water.
Both frameworks are complimentary to established tools such as Green Star SA, but aim much further. Join us to hear about these inspirational paradigms, how we can improve our practice and the local projects taking this journey.

It has been specifically formulated to contain zero* levels of any harmful substances including VOC’s, APEO, MEG, Formaldehyde, Ammonia and Solvents.
*zero means less than 2gm/lt
These harmful substances are either added by the manufacturer of the Raw Material or the Decorative Coating.
Currently with no legislation in RSA restricting the use of these substances it is left to the Paint Manufacturers to take the initiative and reduce these levels.
However by careful selection from growing range of greener alternatives is becoming possible to develop paint which contain extremely low levels of these substances – resulting in coatings which are far less harmful to us and our environment.
