Thursday after work – 6 October 2016 Event
–
The Official Launch of InnovationSIG
–
–
Each InnovationSIG talk will showcase innovation(s) from a featured industry. Each Innovation will be examined to understand its relation to systematic innovation principles and to ICT enablement.
–
Topic: Building Information Modelling (BIM)
–
BIM 2D to 7D plus – Learn what Building Information Modelling is and how BIM is using mobile technology, drones, virtual reality, science, technology, ICT, and innovation to revolutionise construction and management in the construction sector.
–
Real estate has always been a solid investment. The construction industry develops real estate and is an important contributor to the GDP. By establishing proper Building Lifecycle Management (BLM) practices, the investment can be protected and grown.
–
The risks during the design, construction, and management phases stem mostly from the lack of efficient communication and management of data.
–
Examples include:
- Incomplete data during design phase leads to incomplete data during construction, which leads to incomplete data during maintenance.
- Lack of national legislation and standards keeping up with the development of the industry.
- Unrealistic project timelines not allowing the team to thoroughly investigate the design.
- Inefficient co-ordination between the different disciplines leads to on-site corrections and costly downtime during construction.
“BIM is an innovative and collaborative way of working that is underpinned by digital technologies … BIM embeds key product and asset data within a series of 3D computer models that can be used for effective management of information throughout the project lifecycle from earliest inception through to occupation”. About the Presenter:

Werner van der Watt
–
After management of family businesses spanning many industries, I registered to become an architect to fulfil a dream. My work has allowed me to work with people spanning education levels from totally unschooled to those with master’s degrees. I have come to realise that life is about people and how we interact with them. Respect and good communication gets the work done properly. At its very core, Building Information Modelling (BIM) is about efficient communication.
